Failure to Launch Syndrome

I

Failure to Launch is a real-life struggle of young people, 19 to 28, who find it difficult to make the transition from adolescence to adulthood. While the popular movie by the same name is a comedy where a young man continues to live at home and to enjoy being doted on by his parents, the reality of children in this situation is a painful daily struggle to find purpose and independence in their lives.

This can be emotionally and financially frustrating to the family. Failure to launch young people seemingly have little intrinsic motivation to move through life and may appear lazy. They lack the necessary skills to function independently and as a result fail to navigate college and find themselves back at home; they are then out of sync with their peers, and in constant tension with their families. The consequences are often substance use, internet addiction, depression, low self-esteem, and social anxiety.

We have been quite successful assisting these young adults in setting goals, helping them to deal with their anxiety and moving them towards a more self sufficient lifestyle. Call, we are here to help!
